摘要：This seminar will focus on Albert Einstein's book, Out of My Later Years, which consists of fifty-nine short articles written by Einstein in 1936. His book is an invitation to discover the scientist, philosopher, and the man portrayed through Einstein's own words. Einstein's meticulous logical thinking expressed through an accurate and elegant writing style makes it a leading case for academic writing. We will study the chapter entitled "Science" (pages 41-119) and identify features, techniques, and elements of writing that can be applied to academic writing. We highly recommend the attendees to read the chapter before the seminar. No scientific knowledge is required, since we will not discuss the scientific aspect of his work.
个人简介：Andre Python博士先后在英国牛津大学、帝国理工大学、圣安德鲁斯大学、瑞士洛桑大学、弗里堡大学等国际顶尖大学工作学习多年。其研究领域广泛，致力于统计学与自然科学和人文科学的交叉研究。Andre开发和应用空间模型以更好的研究具有空间分布现象其背后的机理，比如传染性疾病、恐怖主义活动等。他的科研项目先后获得众多科研基金会资助，包括英国工程与物理科学研究委员会、欧洲研究理事会、比尔盖茨梅琳达基金会、苏格兰基金会以及浙江大学研究基金等。近期，Andre获得亚马逊公司“AWS机器学习奖金”，用于激励其在应用贝叶斯研究领域的发展。Andre的研究工作目前在多个高水平学术期刊发表，包括Journal of Conflict Resolution, Political Geography, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS)等。其科研成果更被介绍至广大非本专业领域读者群，曾发表在英美统计学会会刊Significance，并由Taylor & Francis集团旗下CRC出版社与美国统计学会(ASA)联合出版英文著作一部Debunking Seven Terrorism Myths using Statistics。
