浙江大学数据科学研究中心将于2024年7月8—10日在杭州举办“2024杭州数据科学前沿国际研讨会”。浙江大学数据科学研究中心成立于2017年5月，是以统计学、应用数学、计算机科学和管理学为核心支撑学科，以大数据理论、应用研究和人才培养为主的校级学术创新研究机构。本次会议是研究中心成立以来举办的第四届数据科学高水平国际性学术研讨会，特邀近百位国内外知名专家学者报告最新研究成果，分享研究见解，以期通过本次会议推动我国数据科学理论研究和应用。

Peter L. Bühlmann

ETH Zürich

Peter Bühlmann has been Full Professor of Mathematics at the ETH Zurich since 1 October 2004.

He was born on April 12, 1965, citizen from Sempach (Switzerland), and studied mathematics at the ETH Zurich (1985-1990). In 1993, he received his doctoral degree in mathematics (statistics) from the ETH Zurich. From 1994-1995 he worked as a postdoc in the Department of Statistics at the University of California at Berkeley. Following this he spent two more years, from 1995-1997, at the U.C. Berkeley as Neyman assistant professor. From 1997-2001 he was Assistant Professor and from 2001-2004 Associate Professor of Mathematics at the ETH Zurich.

His main research is in the field of statistics, with connections to machine learning, bioinformatics and computational biology. Of special interest are the areas of high-dimensional statistics, computational methods for large-scale modeling, and causal inference.

林华珍

西南财经大学

西南财经大学首席教授，统计研究中心主任， 首届新基石研究员，国际数理统计学会IMS-fellow，国家杰出青年科学基金获得者，国家级人才项目入选者。

主要研究方向为深度学习理论、非参数方法、生存数据分析、函数型数据分析、因子模型、转换模型等。研究成果发表在包括国际统计学四大顶级期刊JASA、AoS、JRSSB及Biometrika上。目前是国际统计学顶刊JASA的Associate Editor，还先后担任生物统计顶刊《Biometrics》、计量经济顶刊《Journal of Business & Economic Statistics》、及国际统计重要综合类期刊《Scandinavian Journal of Statistics》、《Canadian Journal of Statistics》、《Statistics and Its Interface》、《Statistical Theory and Related Fields》的Associate Editor，国内权威或核心学术期刊《数学学报》（英文）、《应用概率统计》、《系统科学与数学》、《数理统计与管理》编委会编委。

林华珍教授现任国际泛华统计学会ICSA董事会成员，中国现场统计研究会副理事长，中国现场统计研究会数据科学与人工智能分会理事长，全国工业统计学教学研究会副会长。

Title: Principles and Practices of Federated Learning: Methods, Challenges, and Case Studies

Abstract: In many areas, data has been collected in a decentralized way and federated learning emerges as an important methodology for training statistical and machine learning models without the need to centralize data. In this short course, we will delve into the fundamental principles and state-of-the-art techniques of federated learning. We will introduce practical considerations and challenges, including privacy concerns and communication barriers, within real-world scenarios. Additionally, we will discuss innovative strategies to enhance the effectiveness and applicability of federated learning. We will explore case studies that demonstrate the application of federated learning in biomedical research, aimed at facilitating multi-institutional data integration and collaboration.
